Visit The Barnacle Historic State Park

Enjoy a special day at our beautiful waterfront State Park. Pack a picnic, bring the pooch, pull up a chair on the shady front porch or spread a blanket under a giant oak tree. You’ll enjoy the same view as Commodore Ralph Munroe did with his family did back in the early 1900s.

Take a tour of the historic house and learn about the unique engineering that makes this home so special, and reflects the history of Coconut Grove and all of South Florida.

Stroll down to the shoreline and view the replicas of Munroe's Marine Railway and his famous sailboat EGRET. Peek into the boathouse and you may see volunteers building a traditional wooden boat.

Join us for one of our special events like a Moonlight Concert or Vintage Car show, or just a fun outing with family and friends. Come back again and again. 

Park Information

DAY-USE HOURS AND FEES: The grounds are open Friday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The grounds are closed Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and every Thursday. Pedestrian and bicycle entry is $2 per person. Children ages 5 and under enter free. Prices are subject to change during special events.

HOUSE TOUR HOURS AND FEES: Entry into the historic house is by guided tour only. Tours are scheduled at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. Tickets are sold in the Carriage House Gift Shop and are $3 for ages 13 and up and $1 for children ages 6 to 12. Children ages 5 and under tour free.

PARKING: There is no public parking. Metered parking for motorized vehicles is available in the neighborhood.

The Barnacle is located in Coconut Grove (Miami) at 3485 Main Highway.  The entrance to the park is down the stairs or ramp and through the iron gate.   The house is accessible at the end of the hardwood hammock nature walk. 

PARKING: There is no public parking. Metered parking for motorized vehicles is available in the neighborhood.

 

Directions Via Metrobus & Metrorail

Busses #22 & #42 from Douglas Metrorail Station.  Bus #27 from Coconut Grove Metrorail Station.  Bus #48 from Government Center and Douglas Metrorail Stations.

Directions from the North 

Take I-95 South the end, which becomes US 1.  Continue South and turn left at SW 27th Avenue. Continue to the end. Turn right on S. Bayshore Drive, then follow it around the bend as it becomes MacFarlane Road.  Get into the left lane and take a hard left at the traffic light onto Main Highway.  The park is on the left shortly after the intersection of Commodore Plaza. Parking is on the right in the paid, public lot.
